Rupi Kaur's 'Healing Through Words' - My 'Hurting' chapter thus far

Kia ora e te whānau,
Been a while since I’ve posted on here! You know the know; life, imposter syndrome, writer’s block, mental illness... BUT I’m here now, and let me say, Rupi Kaur’s ‘Healing Through Words’ guided writing exercise journal has been the PERFECT tool to get me out of my rut and back into my creative zone.
The book is divided into four chapters; hurting, hurting, loving, breaking and healing. I won’t be sharing all of my pieces from this journal, and I also won’t be sharing the prompts because they aren’t mine to share (and also because you should buy the mf book, it’s that good). But I will be sharing snippets from each chapter, with three pieces per post. The first post will be free to all, but the rest will be for subscribers only.
It is a freewriting journal, but I may have made a few light edits before publishing. That’s the perfectionist in me, sorry! But the freewriting has been excellent in getting me out of that perfectionist editing zone, and back into my creative, free-spirited brain. Nevertheless, here’s my first few snippets of ‘Hurting’.
My body is a feeding zoo
The creature rears its ugly head in the pit of my stomach
Horns out
Poking away at my gut
Always ravenous
It blazes a steadfast track to my chest
Thumping footsteps
Grating reminders that it’s starving
And I’m its only source of nourishment
Rolling itself into a ball
The stubborn beast makes a home in my throat
Throwing off all my chakras
Hoha won’t move until its fed
Airflow seizes in its presence
Unsure if its trying to keep me safe
Or kill me
Its intentions forever unclear
It can never be fulfilled
A greedy rascal drooling at the mouth
Letting me know I will never be a quick snack
I’m a whole meal that is never satisfying
I find my lover wherever he is
A medication one can never prescribe
Instantly soothed
And I’m addicted
